Young Artist Scholarship Application

To all music teachers and guidance counselors:

YAS Winners The CHORALE invites you and your qualified students to participate in its Young Artist Scholarship program. Each spring at the Young Artist Scholarship Concert, we award a $1000.00 scholarship to an outstanding senior music student who plans to continue music studies at the college or university level. The CHORALE, a community choral ensemble, is seeking to promote continuing education in music and participation in music organizations during and beyond college years. This is the 16th year such an award will be made.

To make this opportunity available, please announce the scholarship to your classes and provide application forms to those expressing interest.

Here is what you can do to make this opportunity available to a qualified student:

  • Announce this scholarship opportunity to your students.
  • Circulate application forms in your music classes.
  • Support and encourage your students as they prepare for the audition.
  • Please be sure to sign each application form.

We enlist your support for this project, and look forward to receiving applications from your school. If you know of private teachers who might have qualified students, please share this information with them. Students:

Here is what you must do to qualify for this scholarship:

  • Fill out an application form. Have it signed by your music teacher.
  • Complete a written statement. This will be a personal statement, no more than one page in length, describing the importance of music in your life, and your plans to include music in your future.
  • Prepare and send a preliminary audition tape recording.
  • Be prepared to audition on Saturday, April 5, 2008 between 9:00 and noon.
  • Be available to perform at the Young Artist Scholarship Concert, May 4, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, 210 West Church St., Champaign.
  • Plan to continue music studies at the college or university level.

The CHORALE will award the $1000.00 scholarship at their Young Artist Scholarship Concert. This concert at First United Methodist Church, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. will feature former scholarship winners and the Festival Chorus directed by Dr. Craig Jessop.

The CHORALE reserves the right to approve the selections to be performed by the winner.
